Abstract

The Higher Education plays a fundamental role in the development process of each nation. In Gabon, since the 1990s, the education system has suffered repetitive strikes whose repercussions greatly reduce the quality and performance of education. For this reason, Gabonese researchers such as Ngou Milama (2010) or Maganga (2013) affirm that National Education has moved away from its primary missions. Both authors think that the educational crisis in Gabon is the result of a lack of regulation of the governance bodies, which in the long term has given way to the so-called bad governance. In fact, today more than ever, facing the millennium goals (MDGs), higher education must improve its governance if it wants to guarantee the social and professional insertion of its citizens. In this perspective, it is necessary to think about a new form of governance of university institutions. The latter must be more inclusive and participatory. This study aims to examine university governance in Gabon. In particular, the Higher Normal School (teacher training) de Libreville is going to be a research field to highlight the process of integration of new forms of governance. We want to check whether the governance put into practice is likely to lead the institution towards its sustainability.
