In this article, I highlight the importance of research for teacher education, in initial training space in the Unesp Art Institute, more specifically within the Initiation Program to Teaching (Pibid), in same Institute, which includes students from three Degrees: visual arts, theater and music education. The Initiation Program to Teaching is an initiative of the federal government – Brasil – since 2007. The Unesp as a whole and the Art Institute began its participation in Pibid through the 2009 edict. Having as central references the contribu-tions of Rancière (2011, 2012), Santos (1989), Cunha (1996), Demo (1991) and Freire (1996), I highlight the importance of investigative approach as well as the detailed record of the class experiences and the develo-pment of theoretical questions and references to deepen the knowledge relevant to initial teacher education. The article develops in three parts: first, with context information about the Pibid at Unesp; the second, with present characteristics and perceptions of possible outcomes of the same program at the Institute of Arts and in the third part, I emphasize and make considerations about the importance of research in the teacher training process.
